In a bold move to reinforce its commitment to good governance, Midlands State University (MSU), in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), hosted a high-level sensitisation workshop for its University Council on 17 February 2025 at Gweru’s Village Lodge.

The event underscored the University’s unwavering dedication to the pillars of good governance: transparency, accountability, participation, and ethical leadership.

The workshop, which brought together MSU’s top leadership, focused on empowering the University’s Integrity Committee (IC) to combat corruption and foster a culture of honesty within its administrative structures.

In her opening remarks, MSU Council Chairperson, Mrs. M. Mwamuka, emphasised the institution’s resolve to embed integrity at its core.

“At Midlands State University, we are committed to fostering a culture of integrity, honesty, transparency, and accountability. These values are not just ideals but the bedrock of our pursuit of excellence and ethical conduct,” she declared.

Mrs. Mwamuka further revealed that the University has established a dedicated Integrity Committee to ensure transparency and accountability across all levels of administration.

This initiative aligns with MSU’s broader mission to lead by example in the fight against corruption and to uphold the highest standards of institutional governance.

Dr. D. Nemaramba, Director-Secretariat, highlighted the critical role of the IC in maintaining accountability and transparency, noting that such mechanisms are essential for building trust and credibility within the institution.

Echoing this sentiment, ZACC Systems Compliance and Review Officer, Mrs. M. Tagwirei, commended MSU for its proactive approach, describing Integrity Committees as indispensable tools in preventing corruption and promoting institutional transparency.

The event reached a symbolic climax as MSU’s leadership signed integrity pledges, witnessed by the University’s Legal Officer.

This act served as a powerful testament to the institution’s pledge to uphold ethical standards and combat malfeasance.

In his closing remarks, University Registrar Mr. T. Zishiri lauded the leadership’s proactive stance, reaffirming MSU’s role as a trailblazer in institutional integrity.

“As the nation implements the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, Midlands State University remains steadfast in its commitment to the sanctity of integrity, setting a benchmark for others to follow,” he stated.

This workshop not only reflects MSU’s dedication to good governance but also positions the University as a model of ethical leadership in higher education, inspiring confidence in its stakeholders and contributing to the broader national anti-corruption agenda.
