The Midlands State University, in its endeavour to not only support and achieve sporting excellence but to also ensure equality in access to sports, has two teams (male and female) currently participating in the country’s competitive leagues. The institution has a men’s team currently doing very well in their respective leagues. The men’s team, also known as the Sharks, is vying for top position in ZIFA’s Central Region Soccer League whilst the women’s team, the Jaguars, is holding its own in the Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League.

Both teams are comprised of a total of 30 registered players each. In a bid to further its community engagement objective, the institution’s has a standing policy that the two soccer must be comprised of both student and non-student players. The policy dictates that 19 of the team’s total of 30 registered players are university students whilst the remaining 11 are from within or around the university community.
