Dr B. Makhubela was listed as one of the top 200 young and influential South Africans by the Mail and Guardian newspaper in 2017. She is a SciFinder Future Leader in Chemistry, German Academic Exchange (DAAD) alumnus, a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Hope Fellow and a FLAIR research grant recipient. She is one of the research collaborators working with Dr G. Mehlana’s research group in the department of Chemical Technology, Midlands State University. Her research group prepares novel metal complexes for investigation as potential biomedicines. uring her visit spoke to the department of Chemical Technology staff and students about her journey as a researcher. Through her speech, she inspired many to distinguish themselves from the rest by attaining excellent grades in their studies so as to attract top opportunities, like scholarships and research opportunities. She encouraged staff members and students to make deliberate strategic moves which will make them stand out in academic and research. Young women were greatly inspired to see another lady having achieved so much success and influence, this was an eye-opener as it envisioned many to see a world of endless positive possibilities.
