From Redcliff and the Lowveld of Zimbabwe to the global stage in Lindau, Germany, Lendly Moyo and Mercy Chaparadza have broken barriers to earn a spot among the 600 young researchers worldwide selected for the 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Chemistry scheduled for June 2025. Their achievement is not just a personal milestone but a statement for women in STEM proving that talent, hard work, and determination can break through any challenge.
Mercy Chaparadza who grew up in Mafodya Range along the Chiredzi-Ngundu Road attended Terry Goss High School before excelling with a first-class honors BSc in Chemical Technology at Midlands State University (MSU). Lendly Moyo, originally from Redcliff, attended Rutendo High School before also pursuing a BSc in Chemical Technology at MSU. Their paths crossed in 2017 and with shared ambitions and backgrounds, they built a bond that fueled their passion for research.
Determined to advance in their field, both returned to MSU in 2022 for an MPhil in Chemistry, which they are completing in 2025. Their research focus on carbon dioxide utilization by converting it into valuable fuels such as methanol using metal organic frameworks. Their dedication and research excellence have earned them a place at the prestigious Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting where they will have the rare opportunity to engage with Nobel Laureates, discuss groundbreaking research, and collaborate with fellow young brilliant scientists from around the world.
