Isaac Mambanda in the Single Crystal Diffractometer room
From 30 June to 5 July 2025, Isaac Mambanda attended the Stellenbosch Introductory Crystallography School (StICS) held at Stellenbosch University, South Africa.
The first phase of the training focused on the theoretical aspects of solid-state chemistry, covering key topics such as the determination of space groups, point groups, plane groups, diffraction physics, and data processing using the X-Seed software.
The second phase of the programme, conducted from 17th to the 29th of August 2025, emphasized hands-on training in single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD). During this practical component, participants were trained to operate the single-crystal diffractometer and to refine crystal structures using both APEX and X-Seed software.
Through participation in this programme, Isaac acquired essential skills in crystal analysis using SCXRD and data processing up to the generation of CIF files suitable for publication. Additionally, arrangements have been made to allow remote access to the Stellenbosch laboratory for crystal analysis. Logistics are currently underway to have the programme fully operational by October 2025.
