Department of Development Studies

The department of development studies at Midlands State University offers highly cross disciplinary programmes from the post graduate diploma up to the Doctorate (PhD) level. The multi-disciplinary programmes answer to the call that communities (people) should be at the core of all development endeavours that are diverse and complex. Therefore, to fully understand them with the goal to finding sustainable solutions to their problems and challenges, there is a need to understand the social, economic, political, cultural as well as environmental dynamics of these communities. The modules or courses that we offer in the department,  range from economics and business finance, human rights, international relations, political economy, gender, climate and environment, politics, development programming, agriculture, rural development, disaster management to food security among others. Our department therefore, aims to produce graduates who are broad minded, analytical and innovative to confront in a sustainable way the challenges facing our nation and other underdevelopment nations.
