RISK AND LOSS CONTROL DEPARTMENT

POST A: SHE MANAGER

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A degree in Safety, Health and Environment; Geography and Environmental Studies/ Science or Environmental Science and Health.
  • A Master’s degree in Safety, Health and Environmental Management is an added advantage. 
  • Certificate in Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Management (OSHEMAC) is a must.
  • At least three years’ post-graduate working experience.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Director – Risk and Loss Control, the incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Leading the Institution in the implementation of Safety, Health and Environment policies and standards.
  • Developing and maintaining SHE system documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with the requirements of all key statutory stakeholders.
  • Formulating and reviewing policies, procedures, plans, and measures for continual improvement.
  • Monitoring contractors’ compliance with internal legal SHE standards and procedures.
  • Initiating and organizing Occupational Safety Health and Environmental training of employees and managers.
  • Periodically testing emergency preparedness equipment and reporting on its performance.
  • Analyzing statistical trends and other leading indicators to assess the effectiveness of SHE programs
  • Identifying hazards and unsafe work practices and providing recommendations on how to manage the hazards.
  • Promoting environmental protection through identifying environmental aspects and impacts in the workplace and developing control methods, procedures, and programs to mitigate negative impacts.
  • Conducting SHE audits, inspections, meetings, and incident management activities.
  • Selecting, training, and supervising SHE cadres (i.e., firefighters, SHE Reps, and first aiders)

POST B: SHE ADMINISTRATOR

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A degree in Safety, Health and Environment or Geography and Environmental Studies/ Science, or a related field.
  • The ideal candidate should have at least one year of working experience in the SHE environment

COMPETENCIES:

  • Computer proficiency.
  • Good communication skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the SHE Manager the incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Formulating safety policies and procedures. 
  • Providing administration support in the Department. 
  • Compiling Safety, Health, and Environment statistics for review. 
  • Communicating with contractors and employees and responding to any SHE-related complaints. 
  • Procuring stationery and Personal Protective Equipment for the Department. 
  • Stopping any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
  • Taking minutes at meetings. 
  • Reviewing and coordinating risk assessments, registers, incident reports, and audit reports. 
  • Organizing monthly/departmental team meetings and solving safety issues. 
  • Keeping a record of all the Department’s legal appointments. 
  • Planning and conducting safety drills with workplace staff. 
  • Planning and organizing training material for all SHE-related training. 
  • Creating safety manuals. 
  • Coordinating safety training and campaigns.

POST C: ENTERPRISE RISK ANALYST

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Risk Management and Insurance Degree / Insurance and Risk Management 
  • At least one-year post-graduate experience in similar post.
  • A professional member of any reputable risk management institute.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Computer proficiency
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of Risk Management frameworks and tools

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Risk Manager the incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Performing risk identification and assessment with management at departmental level.
  • Monitoring implementation of plans to prevent, eliminate and mitigate risks.
  • Assisting the Risk Manager in the development of key risk and control indicators.
  • Coordinating with management in performing risk reviews.
  • Tracking and monitoring operating risk issues for departments.
  • Reporting operational risk issues and decisions to management on a regular basis.
  • Assisting in identifying and evaluating risk areas across the organizational activities.
  • Investigating root causes of risks and providing support to mitigate risks.
  • Developing strong relationships with the key stakeholders and business partners by addressing issues/concerns in a timely manner.
  • Keeping abreast of risk management techniques and industry best practices.

POST D: RISK ADMINISTRATOR

         QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Risk Management and Insurance Degree / Insurance and Risk Management. 
  • At least one year post post-graduate experience in the risk management.

COMPETENCIES 

  • Computer proficiency.
  • Knowledge of Risk Management frameworks and tools
  • Good communication skills.

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Risk identification and assessment with management at departmental level.
  • Assisting the Risk Manager in development of key risks and control indicators
  • Managing and monitoring the University‘s insurance portfolio and ensuring adequate insurance coverage for all the university assets and at right values.
  • Attending to timeous renewal of insurance policies for the University and staff members.
  • Processing insurance claims and assists in third party recovery.
  • Providing claims statistics for all policies showing loss ratios and claim experience,
  • Assisting in Pre-loss and post-loss risk management surveys and recommending appropriate corrective action,
  • Communicating regularly with insurance companies, beneficiaries, and more to prepare claim forms and other related documentation,
  • Reviewing insurance requirements proposed in various leases, client agreements and vendor contracts,
  • Assessment of pension and medical aid policies in accordance with institution guidelines and regulations,
  • Responsible for recording and documenting the minutes during meetings and disseminating them in a timely manner.

POST E: SECURITY GUARD (GWERU, HARARE, KWEKWE AND ZVISHAVANE CAMPUSES)

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • At least 5 ‘O’ levels including English Language.
  • Basic training in security from a recognized institution.
  • At least two (2) years of working experience in the security sector.
  • No criminal record.
  • Should be able to demonstrate the ability to operate a computer.
  • The candidate should be 45 years and below, a self-starter, physically fit and can withstand extended working hours.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate would be required, among other things,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         to: –

  • Provide day and night guard duties at university premises and property to ensure their safety.
  • Conduct crime prevention patrols and scene management in areas of responsibility.
  • Provide advice and support to the University community on security matters.
  • Provide access control services.
  • Provide escort for cash in transit.
  • Manage risks that may lead to loss of assets and or value.
  • Create a conducive atmosphere to promote a healthy learning environment.
  • Perform any other lawful duty that may be assigned from time to time.
