Dr Mehlana the FLAIR Research Fellow has been selected to represent Californium on the Periodic Table of elements. This is an international accolade, which he received after landing an esteemed spot on the international chemist federation’s round-up of esteemed young chemists. This means that Dr Gift Mehlana has been recognised as one of the best 118 young chemists globally. The announcement was made in Ghent, Belgium at the 14th IUPAC International Congress of Crop Protection on the 19th of May 2019. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and the International Year of the Periodic Table, IUPAC and IYCN announced the creation of a Periodic Table of Younger Chemists. The IUPAC General Assembly, is honouring a diverse group of 118 outstanding younger chemists from around the world who embody the mission and core values of IUPAC.
