1.0 PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAMME
The purpose of the programme is to provide theoretical knowledge and practical expertise to facilitate the development of industry locally, regionally and globally. To develop an increased understanding of the philosophical, sociological and psychological foundations underpinning the field of adult education.
2.0 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Normal Entry
Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education or approved equivalent from a recognised institution.

4.0 CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AND FURTHER EDUCATION
Graduates of the Degree Programme can be employed in government, private sector and Non-Governmental Organisations as adult educators, managers, mediators, trainers, rural development officers and supervisors in peace missions.
Graduates may advance to Master’s degree in Lifelong Education.

- MODULE SYNOPSES
BLLL 101 Philosophical Foundations of Lifelong Learning
This module equips the students with a precise and firm historical foundation of the philosophy of adult education. It also introduces students to major schools of philosophical thought and presents a sample of educational philosophers whose ideas have significantly influenced Lifelong Learning Education to date.
The module deals with problems of reality (metaphysics) truth (epistemology and value axiology).
BLLL102 Sociological Foundation of Lifelong Learning
The module assists students develop an understanding of the socio-cultural issues influencing adult education programmes. The module further gives students a sociological imagination through sociological theories; issues of class, poverty, environment and globalisation with special regard to their implication on lifelong learning education provision in Zimbabwe.
BLLL103 Human Capital Development in Lifelong Learning
The module introduces students to the theoretical underpinnings of the Human Resources Management concept and ensures they have an idea of the value that organisations can derive from applying the concept of human resources. It also helps the students to develop and implement coherent and systematic plans for the administration and management of adult education programmes and supervise adult education personnel.
BED133 Information and Communication Technology
The module introduces students to Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) used in education and training environments. The module provides them with an opportunity to explore criteria for the appropriate use of ICT. Students identify and monitor issues arising from the use of ICT and other emerging technologies that can be applied in their work place.
BCHS131 Culture and Heritage Studies
The module examines the concepts of culture and heritage as they relate to unhuism/ubuntuism, innovation and industrialisation. Emphasis is placed on the values of social, historical, architectural, scientific and cultural heritage that can be capitalised for socio-economic development. The module further explores landscapes that contain cultural heritage associated with knowledge, songs, stories, art objects and human remains.
BLLL104 Programme Planning, Implementation and Evaluation
The module equips students with skills to manage their activities and implement their projects, large or small, for survival in a volatile economic environment. It is designed to equip participants with a broad understanding of project identification, preparation and appraisal.
BLLL105 Psychological Foundations of Lifelong Learning
The module equips students with knowledge and skills to facilitate adult learning. It focuses on andragogy as an adult learning theory. Psychology is explained along characteristics of adult learners and motivation theories. In relation to culture and heritage, the module underscores how the modern practice of adult education is rooted in pre-colonial adult education by emphasising methods used in facilitating learning through practice.
BLLL106 Lifelong Learning and the Law
The module covers the introduction to law as applied in Zimbabwe. Emphasis shall be on law as applied in the courts. Students are expected to demonstrate knowledge of the main principles. Case law authorities shall be used to illustrate how the principles involved in the law are applied. Areas to be covered include procedural law, criminal law and, civil law.
BLLL107 Design and Development of Instructional Materials
The module equips students with the knowledge and skills required to design, develop and deliver instruction efficiently and effectively. Emphasis shall be placed on analysing basic models such as ADDIE and the transformation of relevant knowledge into prototype learning materials that are relevant to the local needs of adult learners. This is a practically–oriented module.
BLLL108 Research Methods and Statistics
The module introduces students to the basic principles of research. It develops the students’ knowledge and skills in the following areas: identification of research problems in education; selection of appropriate research designs and data collection tools; data analysis techniques; research findings and conclusions; and research report writing. The module also introduces students to educational research that is aligned with sustainable development issues such as environmental conservation and poverty eradication.
BLLL109 Techniques and Practice of Open and Distance Education and E-learning
The module develops in participants a systematic and scholarly approach to understanding the concept, origins and development of distance education and the theories underpinning distance education; and analyses different organisational models in the provision of distance education and apply the techniques and practices in distance education in the field of lifelong learning.
BLLL110 Training Techniques
The module seeks to familiarise the adult learner with various training techniques for innovation used during training such as problem-solving techniques, lesson presentation skills, ice-breaking techniques, training games and communication skills. Methods that evolved from traditional practices are emphasised.
BLLL111 Comparative Studies in Lifelong Learning
The module exposes students to knowledge of the historical development of comparative education and promotes skills of accurate analysis of the growth of Lifelong Learning education locally and globally. It emphasises the ability to accurately capture similarities with a view to solving common adult education problems in local settings. Content to be covered includes historical background, phases in the development of comparative education, approaches used in comparative education and different case studies.
BLLL112 Environmental and Sustainable Development
The module introduces participants to the various dimensions of sustainable development; strategies in the management of natural resources; and analyses some of the environmental and sustainable developmental strategies that are currently in place. Areas to be covered include climate change, pollution, green gases, greenhouses and energy.
BLLL113 Gender Studies in Lifelong Learning
The module exposes students to the concept of gender and the importance of gender studies as a field of study. Students shall further be introduced to gender analysis frameworks, teasing out how the family, the workplace and public spaces construct gender inequalities and the implications of these on development. Theories of gender inequalities and ways of redressing gender imbalances shall be interrogated.
BLLL114 Disaster and Livelihood Management
The module equips the participants with the right skills, knowledge and attitudes to managing environmental disasters within their catchment areas. It also empowers them to determine proactive approaches to disaster management identify institutional arrangements and legal frameworks for disaster mitigation, and design post-disaster management strategies.
BLLL115 Development Studies
This module exposes students to economic, social and political changes in general and the major challenges they pose in the various institutions or agencies of development. The module is multi and interdisciplinary and promotes innovation and industrialisation. It offers students the opportunity to design an individual, cross-disciplinary programme of study of selected topics in development.
BLLL116 Health and Safety in Lifelong Learning
The module exposes students to the Public Health multi-disciplinary principles and practices. Students examine issues that threaten the overall health of the community with a view to coming up with effective lifelong education programmes that promote public health. Areas covered include public health, awareness of public health as a public good, fundamental rights and information dissemination.
BLLL117 Management Information Systems
The module aims to explore various aspects that are essential in understanding Information Technology as a business tool. Both hardware and software components of Information Systems shall be explored. These shall then be blended into the effective and efficient running of an electronic business, especially in telecommunications, internet security, integrity and access. The module shall also look at ethical issues in Information Systems.
BLLL118 Entrepreneurship and Financial Management
The module equips students with entrepreneurship skills that enable them to be creative and innovative. It capacitates students with creative and innovative skills that can be used in industrialisation and management of finances. Areas to be covered include the entrepreneurship process, features of entrepreneurs, creation and innovation.
BED232 Research Project
In this final year, two-semester module each student carries out a research project in an area of his/her choice under the guidance of a supervisor. Through the study, students are expected to apply their knowledge and skills in research in the resolution of an identified research problem, as well as show their appreciation of research as a viable process of addressing contemporary challenges and issues in education and their local environments.
