The Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Development, Dr Sithembiso Nyoni paid a courtesy call on the Midlands State University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Victor Muzvidziwa at the University’s Gweru Main Campus.
The visit held on the 27th of September, 2019 was aimed at expressing her gratitude to the University for supporting the girl child as well as issues of gender equality and equity that have seen an increase in the number of women from MSU occupying influential positions within government structures.

The Ministry has a Memorandum of Understanding with the University, which has seen a group of female graduates venturing into clothing design and production of cordial drinks.

During his brief to the Minister, Professor Muzvidziwa highlighted that the University had established several institutes including the Gender Institute, the Language Institute and the Tugwi-Mukosi Research Institute whose activities are of benefit to women, SMEs and the community at large.

‘The Gender Institute, in particular, has a gender module that is taught across all University programmes so that students have an appreciation of the importance of gender at the workplace,’ said Professor Muzvidziwa.

Dr Nyoni who is passionate about  the girl child, is sponsoring 15 students studying various programmes at MSU and was impressed by the manner in which issues of the girl child are being handled at the University and hopes to see the Incubation Hub benefiting the SMEs sector.

‘I would be happy if the Incubation Hub could come up with innovations for new high-end equipment that can be used by SMEs in the production of their goods. I saw this during my visit to India; they are very good at incubation,’ she said.
Professor Muzvidziwa was joined by the two Pro-Vice Chancellors, Professor Doreen Moyo, Research and Academic Affairs, Professor Kadmiel Wekwete, Business Development and Administration as well as the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs Mirirai Mawere during the brief.
