To help in the fight against COVID-19, Midlands State University (MSU) donated one thousand litres of hand sanitizer and 200 face masks to the Provincial Inter-Ministerial Taskforce at an event held at the Zanu-PF Conference Centre, in Gweru on the 16th of April 2020.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Professor Muzvidziwa said the donations were part of wider efforts by the University to assist in mitigating the spread of the coronavirus.

“Today we extend support to the cause that you, as the Midlands Province COVID-19 Taskforce, are championing. The 1000 litres of liquid sanitizer that we are handing over to you is just another token of our commitment to working together with you in fighting the spread of the coronavirus.
In line with WHO guidelines, the sanitizer has a 70% alcohol concentration and has no adverse effects on the skin.

We hope that our province and the nation at large will be able to combat the spread and impact of the virus by adhering to the directions of our Government to stay home, wash our hands frequently and maintain social distance,” he said.

Receiving the donation of behalf of the provincial task force, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in the Midlands, Honorable Senator Larry Mavima, expressed satisfaction with the work being done by MSU.

“Congratulations to MSU for launching something new. We want to teach all young people that nothing is impossible. The sanitizer and facial masks will help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and prevent the spread of the virus,” said Honorable Mavima.

The event was also attended by the acting Provincial Development Coordinator, the Provincial Medical Director, the Public Service Commission Provincial Head, members of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) and members of the Provincial Inter-Ministerial COVID-19 Taskforce.

The sanitizer which is being manufactured at the Midlands State University Incubation Hub will be distributed to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Gweru Provincial Hospital, Zimbabwe Military Academy, Airforce of Zimbabwe, NatPharm, Gweru City Council, Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, Batanai Old People’s Home, Queen of Peace Halfway Home, Athlone Children’s Home, and the Boggies Trust among other stakeholders and clients.
