In her opening remarks, the Executive Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies, Professor Laurine Chikoko welcomed the students and thanked them for joining the Mendeley Referencing Virtual Workshop. Professor Chikoko highlighted the importance of using Mendeley saying it enables researchers to organise their work, collaborate with other researchers and makes research writing easy.

Dr U. Guyo, the Deputy Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies took the candidates through Mendeley referencing. Mendeley is a free reference manager and at its basic, a citation management tool, which can also help with other aspects of research, such as organising PDFs of research papers, including annotation and highlights. It inserts bibliographies and citations into a word processor. One can share their research with collaborators. In addition, Mendeley helps users to discover articles in their field. “Mendeley referencing takes a lot of the hard work out of formatting references, leaving you with more time for writing and less time stressing about commas and full stops”, he said. The webinar was well attended by supervisors and students giving the workshop a broad impact.

One of the supervisors, Dr. M. Shumba said, “What a convenient way to reach out to colleagues during this pandemic era – wonderful platform!”
