Midlands State University (MSU) on the 20th of February 2022 hosted the CG Msipa Scholarship Trust Fundraising Fun Run at the University’s Graduate School of Business Leadership in Gweru.
Athletes from all walks of life including those in the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) participated in the fundraising fun run which was categorized into 21, 10 and five-kilometre marathon events.
Chairman of C G Msipa Scholarship Trust, Mr Canaan Duve was the guest of honour at the event.
Every athlete who participated in the run received a medal and a CG Msipa Scholarship Trust branded t-shirt.
The then Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Advice Viriri who also participated in the run thanked all the athletes for supporting the event. He said that he hopes that all participants can come again and participate in the 2023 run.
Professor Viriri also thanked CG Msipa Scholarship Trust for choosing the University as the appropriate host for their event.
The late Midlands Province Governor Cde Cephas George Msipa was a philanthropist who championed educational and financial support for vulnerable beneficiaries.
The late Governor, who is remembered by many as an honest, humble and straightforward man, was a respected member of the wider MSU University family.
The Director of Sports and Recreation, James Chivivi said that he hopes that the fundraising marathon can become an annual national event that includes all the tertiary institutions in Zimbabwe.
The CG Msipa Scholarship Trust was founded by the late Cephas George Msipa and run by a Board of Trustees to assist vulnerable pupils with financial support to cover their academic needs from secondary school until one completes a first degree at any state university in Zimbabwe.
