Aims of the Department 

  • To prepare students to become professionals capable of design, management of infrastructure projects, thus supporting and boosting economic development and generating a higher quality of life. 
  • Contribute to the construction and maintenance of infrastructure facilities and systems, particularly in the local and surrounding areas.
  • Using cutting-edge technology, students will learn how to solve construction-related problems. 
  • To provide students with knowledge of sustainable development for the betterment of the living environment and the preservation of natural resources. 
  • Understand ethical issues related to their work and be able to employ their gained knowledge and abilities to the benefit of society. 
  • To provide students with strong abilities in building technology and management, allowing them to better satisfy the needs of the society and obtain greater flexibility in their work choices. 
  • To prepare graduates for future professional development or postgraduate studies in engineering and management.

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering

Admission requirements

Normal Entry: To be admitted into the BEng. Honours in Civil Engineering degree programme, applicants must have passed at least three Advanced Level subjects in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, or acceptable equivalents. The Chemistry requirement may be substituted by Computing Science or Technical Drawing provided the candidate has a satisfactory pass in Chemistry or Physics with Chemistry at O Level. It is also a requirement that applicants have at least five O Level passes including Mathematics and a Science subject.

Special Entry: Applicants with suitable advanced qualifications (ND/HND) related to civil engineering and a minimum of three (3) years of industrial experience may be considered for admission through the National Qualifications Framework route.

Career Prospects

Civil and Construction engineering graduates find employment as Civil Engineers, Construction engineers, Road Engineers, Railway Engineers, Construction Project Managers, Resident or Site Engineers, Town Engineers, Teaching Assistants or Clerks of Works.
