The Midlands State University teams that participated at the 2016 Federation of African Universities Sports (FASU) games that were recently held in South Africa, did the institution proud after finishing in a commendable tenth position on the overall medals table. Thirty five Universities from nine countries took part in the week long sports fiesta.
Team MSU won one gold, four silver and two bronze medals to emerge as the highest ranked institution from Zimbabwe at the games. The men’s volleyball team was the pick of the crop after winning gold, adding to the gold medals they won at the ZUSA and ZTISU games.
The athletics team won two silver and two bronze medals with the other silver medals coming from the men’s table tennis and men’s tennis where outgoing SRC Minister for Sport, Tawanda Chigwanagwana also won silver.
