Team MSU flew the University flag with distinction after emerging from Cluster One of the Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association (ZUSA) games with an impressive medal haul. The games were hosted by the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo from the 17th to the 19th of March 2017.
Competing in a number of disciplines that included cricket, volleyball, handball, track and field athletics and hockey, athletes from Midlands State University lived up to the billing as the team to beat after scooping seven gold, thirteen silver and eleven bronze medals, to complete the games with an impressive tally of thirty one medals.
Team MSU’s most impressive performance came from the women’s cricket team who scooped gold in their debut appearance at the games after outclassing tournament hosts and crowd favourites the National University of Science and Technology in a one sided final.
The ZUSA games will continue on the 31st of March through to the 2nd of April 2017 with Cluster Two of the games that include football, basketball, rugby and netball, being hosted by the University of Zimbabwe in Harare
Individuals and teams that win gold and silver medals in the ZUSA games will proceed to represent the University at the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union (ZTISU) games to be held in Harare later this year.
