Team MSU put up a thrilling performance on the final day of the Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association (ZUSA) Cluster 2 games that were held at the University of Zimbabwe from the 31st of March to the 2nd of April, 2017
The team lived up to expectations on the final day, scooping medals in the different disciplines and leaving a mark of excellence and outstanding sportsmanship on the games. Team MSU won gold in the men’s football after edging perennial arch rivals Chinhoyi University of Technology by two goals to one in a closely contested final that was watched by the Executive Dean of Students, Mr. I. Chaka.
Not to be outdone, the women’s football team also won gold after beating Chinhoyi University by three goals to nil to emerge from the tournament without having conceded a goal. The much anticipated netball final also went the way of MSU with the “iron ladies” outclassing UZ in a one sided final.
MSU recorded a clean sweep in the golf with both of the University’s teams scooping gold and several individual awards. The men’s basketball team, “The Hawks” won silver after being edged by the University of Zimbabwe in the final. The women’s basketball team won the third place playoff to secure the bronze medal, in the process ensuring that all teams that participated in the Cluster 2 games returned home with a medal.
Teams that won gold and silver medals will represent the University in the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union (ZTISU) games to be held later in the year. We congratulate Team MSU for a simply superb performance!
