As a way of recognizing the efforts of the institution’s benefactors, Midlands State University recently hosted an appreciation ceremony at the University on Wednesday, 7 June 2017.

Hosted by the Student Funding Committee and the Division of Student Affairs, the event brought together and honoured the different institutions that are paying fees and taking care of the welfare of some of the University’s less privileged students.

Addressing the gathering, the Midlands State University Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Academic Affairs) Professor D Z Moyo, thanked the different sponsors for their efforts and implored the beneficiaries of the sponsorships to compliment their benefactors by also helping fellow students when they eventually complete their studies. Professor Moyo also urged members of University staff to take a leaf from some of their colleagues who are currently paying fees for some needy students through the student hardship fund.

Speaking on behalf of the benefactors, Higher Life Foundation representative, Dr. K. Mubaiwa applauded Midlands State University’s focus on character building and the institution’s emphasis on instilling integrity in its students, noting that these are the core values required in the leaders of tomorrow.

Dr. Mubaiwa appreciated the level of commitment shown by Midlands State University towards building a holistic student and noted that the commitment served as an encouragement to the sponsors whose motivation is driven by the need to, “build tomorrow today” through providing material and financial support to students.

Several institutions and individuals are currently paying fees and taking care of the welfare of some of the indigent students at Midlands State University. These institutions and organizations include Higher Life Foundation, the Guramatunhu Family Trust, the Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner General’s Welfare Fund, the Zion Christian Church through RUCOS, FBC Bank and the MSU student hardship fund.

The University Registrar, Mr. E. Mupfiga, Executive Deans of Faculties, staff and students of the Midlands State University, attended the ceremony which saw representatives of the benefactors being given tokens of appreciation.
