ICAZ

Zimbabwe’s largest professional accountancy organization, the Institute of Charted Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICAZ) is this year (2018), celebrating 100 years of existence. To mark this great milestone, the institution’s Midlands Chapter on Friday the 8th of June, in partnership with Midlands State University hosted a Visioning Meeting at the University’s Gweru main campus as part of the centenary celebrations.

The visioning meeting, which ran under the theme Celebrating Our First 100 Years, a Stepping Stone to the Next 100, brought together ICAZ members and alumni, MSU accounting students, representatives from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, high school teachers and members of the Gweru business community.

In his welcome remarks, Midlands State University acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Victor N. Muzvidziwa commended ICAZ’s national executive and its Midlands Chapter for choosing to partner MSU as part of their centennial celebrations. Professor Muzvidziwa said, the partnership between the two institutions would go some way in establishing a firm foundation for future chartered accountants at both provincial and national level.

Addressing participants, during the momentous meeting, the ICAZ Midlands Chapter Councillor and MSU Bursar, Mr Adam Zvandasara said the main objectives of the visioning meeting were to present and discuss with key stakeholders, the Chapter’s vision of setting up an accounting scholarship fund as well as that of holding an annual accounting Olympiad for 47 high schools from within the Midlands Province as part of wider efforts to support and encourage high school students to take up the accounting profession.

‘We are trusting that the sharing of the dream, which we are calling the Visioning, will culminate, by the end of the celebration event today, in resolutions and clear actionables focusing on how the student, in this case the potential Chartered Accountant (CA) … could be supported, encouraged and shaped, from an early stage while still in Upper 6, into becoming a CA of note in the coming years, who will not only impact positively back in his/her village, but impact positively to his/her Province, to the Country and to the World in general, and therefore become the CA that will drive ICAZ, MSU, the Province, the District and the Village, for the next 100 years’, said Mr Zvandasara.

Speaking during the same event, ICAZ president Mr Martin Makaya said, as the longest established and biggest Zimbabwean professional accountancy organization, ICAZ was excited to be partnering Midlands State University, one of the country’s premier institutions of higher learning and was quite optimistic that the collaboration would be a success.

The visioning meeting which culminated into the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between ICAZ and MSU was graced by ICAZ president, Mr M. Makaya, ICAZ Acting CEO, Mrs F. Karekaivanane, ICAZ past presidents, Mr N. Zhou and Mr N. Kudenga, prominent Gweru based chartered accountant, Mr T. Chikohora and members of the University community among them the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Business and Administration, Professor K. Wekwete, the Librarian, Ms N. P.
