The Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) has commended Midlands State University led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor V. N. Muzvidziwa for its quest to introduce fifteen (15) dual honours degree programmes that are in line with the country’s entrepreneurship, modernisation and industrialisation agenda.

Speaking at the University’s Zvishavane Campus where the team was evaluating facilities for the proposed new programmes, the ZIMCHE Director Registration and Accreditation, Dr A. Tirivangana, said MSU has become a pacesetter, in coming up with programmes and in producing relevant graduates that respond to the national demand for critical skills.

‘The Arts and Humanities sector has been identified as a critical area in ensuring that Zimbabwe becomes an industrial and technological hub through modernisation and entrepreneurship. In that vein, MSU has managed to upscale its degree programmes by introducing dual honours degree programmes that are tailor-made to address the challenges facing the nation’, he said.

The dual honours programmes which will be housed in the Faculty of Arts are benchmarked against top international universities and designed to provide solutions to national and global challenges.

Dual honours courses at undergraduate level allow students to pursue two fields of study which lead to a single degree. Most importantly, dual honours programmes broaden students’ options for post-graduate training and give students the latitude and flexibility to package their training in line with career intentions.

The new programmes that are set to be introduced are:

  1. Dual Honours Degree in English and History,
  2. Dual Honours Degree in English and Religious Studies,
  3. Dual Honours Degree in History and Archaeology
