The Research and Postgraduate Studies Office held the third edition of the Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy orientation programme on the 14th of November 2018.

In her opening remarks, the Acting Executive Dean of the Research and Postgraduate Studies, Professor Laurine Chikoko congratulated all new postgraduate candidates for making it into the postgraduate studies programme at Midlands State University. Professor Chikoko highlighted the importance of the orientation programme in that it provides the candidates with direction,equips and prepares them as they embark on their postgraduate studies journey.

The Orientation programme covered various issues ranging from provisional registration, full registration, postgraduate fees structure, supervision, deferment of studies, accessing E-resources, proposal writing, Mendeley referencing andthe examination process. The Library represented by Mr Makeke enlightened students on how to access E-resources. Various supervisors gave emphasis on the importance of a good working relationship between the supervisee and the supervisor. Dr U. Guyo, the Senior Research Officer, took the candidates through Mendeley referencing.

The orientation programme was attended by some senior academics in the University namely, Professor L. Mberengwa, Professor A.T. Manyawu, Dr W. Dzimiri, Dr M. Shumba, Dr E. Mutenheri and Dr L. Chitanana who made valuable contributions and informed discussions especially with respect to supervision and proposal writing.
