The Midlands State University Alumni Relations Office launched the University’s Bulawayo Alumni Chapter at a colourful cocktail held at a local hotel in Bulawayo on Wednesday, the 24th of April 2019.

The launch which was held on the sidelines of the 60th edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair provided an opportunity for alumni from the City of Kings (and Queens) to interact with their alma mater. For their alma mater, it was an opportunity to articulate the University’s vision as well as discuss, how members of the alumni can contribute to making this vision a reality.

Through the recently established Alumni Directorate led by Mrs Idah Mangoma, alumni were informed of the University’s plans to construct a state-of-the-art Alumni Centre, which will serve as the nerve centre for all alumni activities.

Speaking during the launch, Midlands State University Vice-Chancellor Professor Victor Muzvidziwa acknowledged the crucial role of alumni in the development and internationalisation of the University. He further urged Alumni members to contribute to the growth and development of the institution by sharing ideas, material and financial resources.

The event also featured a panel discussion in which some alumni members who included the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Honourable Jennifer Mhlanga, Founding Chairman of the Midlands State University Council, Mr Canaan Dube, Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe Communications and Public Relations Manager, Mrs Anna Hungwe and PowerTel Head of Marketing and Corporate Business, Mr Prosper Mutswiri shared their experiences during their time as students.

To top off what was no doubt a magnificent evening, some alumni members took the initiative to donate money towards the construction of the Alumni Centre, which will be the first of its kind and located at the Graduate School of Business Leadership Campus in Gweru.
