Zimbabwe Research and Education Network (ZIMREN) held a two-day meeting aimed at discussing the prices of the bandwidth from their respective service providers within the various Universities in Zimbabwe. The meeting ran from the 5th to the 6th of September 2019 at Midlands State University`s Gweru Main Campus.
The meeting brought together Information Communication and Technology (ICT) directors from various local universities including Zimbabwe Open University, National University of Science and Technology, Great Zimbabwe University, Africa University and Midlands State University to mention but a few.
Zimbabwe Research and Education Director Network Director, Engineer Cletus Nyachowe said, following the increase of costs by their service providers, ZIMREN has gone on the negotiating table to keep ICT products and services affordable for the benefit of the students.
Telone Corporate Sales Account Manager Mr Abrams Munyangiri said as an organization, they have partnered with most of the universities in various activities hence the need to come to an understanding of various issues that came up at the meeting.
Other issues that were discussed during the two-day meeting include pricing, with the implied US dollar versus the local currency rating, contract structure, tenure, termination clauses and bandwidth projections
