Australian based Midlands State University (MSU) Alumnus, Philimon Zongo, delivered a public lecture entitled “Cyber resilience in a hyper connected world” which was mainly focusing on hacking and other forms of threats affecting cyber security in any organization. Mr. Zongo is also the author of “The Five Anchors of Cyber Resilience,” the Co-Founder and Director of Cyber Resilience, an organization that focuses on Cyber Security based in Sydney, Australia.
The public lecture was held on the 21st of October 2019 at the Gweru main campus and it came at a time when the nation was commemorating the Cyber Security month. The event was attended by the Acting Vice Chancellor Professor D Z Moyo, the University Librarian Ms N Chibanda, Alumni Director Mrs I Mangoma as well as students from the Department of Information Technology.
Professor Moyo underscored the importance of Cyber resilience which has become topical in most institutions in the wake of a digital world. “The field of Cyber Security has become more important due to continued resilience on computer systems, the internet and wireless network standards such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi due to the growth of smart devices that is smart phones, televisions and various devices that constitute the internet of things,” she said.
Mr. Zongo whose lecture was based on the book he authored, said the major reason he wrote his book was to directly give practical guidance to senior business leaders on the issue to do with Cyber security.
“The Five Anchors of Cyber Resilience has to do with taking the subject of cyber security out of the periphery of the Information Technology enterprise as this issue has become civilian based,” said Mr.Zongo.
Cyber security has become a broad area whose importance is necessary for business leaders if they are to safeguard their interests. Mr. Zongo later donated his book to Midlands State University’s library.
