Michael White, a Midlands State University, second-year, first-semester (Level 2.1) Sociology student was on the 8th of October 2020 accepted into the Yale Review of International Studies (YRIS) International Correspondents Programme.

The YRIS is an undergraduate journal dedicated to publishing both opinion and long-form scholarship on contemporary and historical global issues. In order to address the many questions of international interest, YRIS seeks to stimulate broad and multi-faceted debate on issues ranging from foreign policy to international trends in law, culture, and the environment.

Michael’s acceptance as a contributor to the journal comes with it the status of being a brand ambassador for the YRIS. The acceptance also comes with a requirement of a minimum of three articles a semester and participation in outreach efforts such as reaching out to Midlands State University network when the YRIS is soliciting Issue submissions.

Michael was quoted as saying: “This acceptance means a great deal to me as it requires a lot of hard work over and above the demands of my assignments since I have to embark on research to produce the desired articles. The recognition is also a motivation for me to continue pursuing academic writing. I want to convey my special thanks to the entire Sociology Department for believing in me as well as everybody else who encouraged me to take part in this international essay competition”.

On behalf of the entire University community, we congratulate Michael and wish him the very best as he embarks on a crucial journey of discovery and transformation that will connect him to readers across the globe.
