Midlands State University held a Risk Management Workshop at the institution’s Gweru Main Campus on the 30th of October 2020. The one-day workshop was facilitated by WFDR Risk Services, a leading brokerage and professional risk consultancy firm.
Midlands State University Registrar, Mr Tinashe Zishiri, in his opening remarks, thanked WFDR Risk Services facilitating risk management workshop, which he said was critical in minimising the University’s risk exposure.
“I want to thank WFDR Risk Services for facilitating this workshop, it will give all MSU departments insight into how we can mitigate risks and safeguard the University’s assets,” he said.
Mr Mapiye Chigorondondo, the WFDR Risk Services Managing Director, in his presentation, outlined the different risks that an organisation can be exposed to and the risk management process that can be employed to lower or avert the risks.
“The first step is to identify the risks that the business is exposed to in its operating environment. There are different types of risks – legal risks, environmental risks, market risks, regulatory risks, and much more. It is, therefore, important to identify as many of these risk factors as possible.
“Once a risk has been identified it needs to be analysed. The scope of the risk must also be determined and understood relative to the different factors within the organisation.
“Every risk needs to be eliminated or contained as much as possible and this is done by connecting with experts in the field in which the risk belongs to,” he said.
Among those who attended the workshop were the MSU Vice-Chancellor, Professor V. N. Muzvidziwa, MSU Principal Officers and heads of departments.
