Midlands State University, BSc Mathematics final-year, first-semester student, Leonard Mushunje has been accepted into the prestigious and coveted Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD). The programme is sponsored by the United States Department of State through its Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Leonard, who is one of only four Zimbabwean students who were selected for the programme, will join 250 other students from around the globe. The students will pursue non-degree undergraduate studies for an entire semester at various assigned American universities or colleges, as part of the exchange programme.

To qualify for the exchange programme, Leonard had to satisfy the programme’s rigorous criteria, by demonstrating good leadership, academic excellence, community involvement, and proactive participation in extracurricular activities among other qualities.

Leonard is expected to commence his programme in August 2021 after the opening status of his assigned institution was changed from January 2021 to August 2021 due to the global health crisis.

Programme participants will be exposed to U.S. society and culture, over and above, opportunities to enhance their academic and professional skills.

For Zimbabwean citizens, the exchange programme, which is administered through the U.S. Embassy Harare Public Affairs Section, is intended to promote mutual understanding between the United States and Zimbabwe through educational exchange.

On behalf of the entire University community, we congratulate Leonard and wish him the very best as he undertakes a new and exciting journey of academic, social and cultural growth and discovery.
