Midlands State University Vice Chancellor, Professor Victor Ngonidzashe Muzvidziwa welcomed first-year, first-semester (level 1:1) students at an orientation ceremony that was held at the University’s Multi-Purpose Hall at Gweru Main Campus on the 6th of September 2023.

In her welcome remarks, MSU Executive Dean of Students, Ms. Fadzai Chakauya encouraged the students to familiarize with the University system, connect with members of the University community and learn about available resources on campus that help them in their university journey.

In his address, Professor V. N. Muzvidziwa emphasized that with the University’s abundant resources, the new students’ paths to success were assured to be fruitful journeys.

“We congratulate, welcome and cherish you for choosing MSU as your home; and with the support that you will get and the commitment that you have, your dreams will come true.

“All the great leaders of the future are in this orientation today because MSU grows leaders who build our nation and our future because what you will attain at MSU are not just paper qualifications but knowledge and skills that will ensure that your futures become brighter on this academic journey,” remarked Professor Muzvidziwa.

The Vice Chancellor further alluded that the students must abstain from drugs and other substances that can lead to poor judgement, decline in academic performance, unplanned pregnancies, damaged relationships with friends and family as well as suicide.

Hazel Mtetwa, a new student studying Counselling Psychology said, “I am excited to begin my studies after seeing how vastly resourced the University is.

“It has far exceeded my expectations and I hope to make the most of this opportunity to build a bright future”.

The orientation concluded with the new students touring of the University’s campuses.
