In a move aimed at driving growth, fostering innovation, and addressing the evolving needs of society, Midlands State University (MSU) has partnered with PowerTel Communications, a leading telecommunications powerhouse.
The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the 27th of September 2023 at the Gweru Main Campus.
In his welcome remarks, MSU Business Development Manager-Dr. G. Charis, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to PowerTel Communications for partnering with the University and that the relationship will have a longstanding impact.
“This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has come in a timely fashion, and we will throw our weight behind it.
“We are ready to implement the framework and we are very keen when it comes to innovation,” remarked Dr. Charis.
The Managing Director-PowerTel Communications, Mr. Willard Nyagwande, said that he was honored to sign the MoU with a renowned University which has a depth of knowledge in research development and innovation.
“The coming together between the academia and the industry will spur our respective institutions to greater heights.
“PowerTel and MSU have a greater mandate to see that this union crystalizes to something which is optical,” Mr. Nyagwande said.
In his remarks, Director-Information Technology Services, Mr. L. Dandira, highlighted that the signing ceremony was the dawn of a new era in linkages between academia and industry particularly in areas to do with internet connectivity.
“The signing of this MoU signifies the beginning of a strategic partnership that brings together the academic excellence of MSU and the industry expertise of PowerTel.
“Through collaboration and teamwork, the institutions will explore avenues for joint research projects, knowledge exchange programs and capacity building initiatives by harnessing the expertise of faculty researchers and industry professionals,” Mr. Dandira remarked.
The weight of the moment was palpable as Mr. Tinashe Zishiri, MSU Registrar, as the official representative of the University, carefully inscribed his signature on the MoU, creating a symbol of the powerful alliance between Midlands State University and PowerTel Communications that would soon bear fruit in the form of groundbreaking research and development.
The two institutions pledged to maintain regular dialogue, sharing best practices and fostering an environment of trust and transparency by leveraging on collective resources, networks and insights.
