As part of its efforts to enhance research and learning through innovative methodologies, Midlands State University Library hosted the Journal of Visualised Experiments (JoVE) Training Workshop at Gweru Main Campus on the 20th of August 2024.

JoVE  is the world’s first scientific video journal renowned for producing and providing leading videos that enhance research, learning and teaching of science subjects in innovative ways.

Delivering welcome remarks on behalf of the Pro-Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs and Administration, Professor Mcebisi Maphosa, the University Librarian, Ms. P. N. Chibanda highlighted that the training workshop was an invaluable opportunity for lecturers, researchers and students to learn and exchange knowledge on the various opportunities offered by JoVE in advancing research and learning in an innovative way.

“To our academic staff, today’s workshop is an opportunity for you to explore how JoVE can be integrated into your curricula, enriching the educational experience for our students.

“For our library staff, this is a chance to learn how you can better support our academic community by incorporating JoVE into our library services and research support offerings,” indicated  Ms. Chibanda.

Following the Librarian’s welcome remarks, JoVE Customer Success Specialist, Ms. Keisher Njenga guided participants into a practical session on ways to effectively use JoVE for research, learning and teaching.

Throughout the training workshop, participants gained hands-on experience on ways of integrating JoVE  videos in learning & teaching, search techniques and methods of maneuvering the JoVE platform for content.

The question and answer segment availed to participants grant them an opportunity to have an active engagement with the facilitator.

Deputy Librarian – Scholarly Communications, Research Support, Innovation and Digital Services, Mr. E. Makeke gave a vote of thanks highlighting the importance of embracing innovative methodologies in research.

Through collaborative learning, the University is determined to enhance its research capabilities.
