SHORT COURSE IN: HUMANITARIAN ESSENTIALS AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT
Course Aim and target groups
The frequency, duration and impact of natural and human-made disasters creates a pressing need for competently trained workforce of humanitarian professionals who are ready to respond to these disasters. This course is intended for individuals who seek to develop basic or essential skills as well as enhancing their knowledge of the foundations and principles of humanitarian assistance, disaster management and response. The course also seeks to enhance the leadership and management skills for professionals working with populations in need of humanitarian assistance and facing impending disaster situations. The curriculum is designed to develop and improve the skills of persons interested in providing emergency services in disaster situations.
Entry Requirements
The course is open to anyone with 5 Ordinary level passes including English who seeks to pursue the humanitarian profession or is already working for humanitarian organisations, international and national Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and government departments responsible for humanitarian programming and response.
Course Duration: The course shall run for a duration of 12 weeks
Mode of Delivery: lectures for this course shall be held every Saturday and will be delivered virtually. Students shall be provided with key reading materials and internet links. At the end of training students shall
be awarded a Midlands State University Certificate of Completion.

- Logistics and Supply Chain Management in Emergencies
- Health in Humanitarian Emergencies Communication
- Information Management in Humanitarian Emergencies
- Humanitarian Coordination in Emergencies
- Recovery and Rehabilitation in Disaster-Affected Communities
- Monitoring and Evaluation in Humanitarian Programmes
- Ethics and Principles in Humanitarian Action.
