GWERU, Zimbabwe – Midlands State University (MSU) conducted a comprehensive statistical data analysis training program, aimed at enhancing the research capabilities of its academic community.

The two-part series, organised by the University’s Research and Innovation Division, focused on equipping researchers with essential skills in using STATA software.

The first session, held on August 9, 2024, covered theoretical foundations and introduced participants to the software interface. The second session, on August 29, 2024, provided hands-on experience in applying these skills to real-world data analysis.

Dr. Dambaza from the Faculty of Science and Technology and Mr. Masunda from the Faculty of Agriculture, Environment, and Natural Resources Management led the training.

Both experts brought their extensive experience in statistics and econometrics to the sessions.

Professor Mehlana, Deputy Director for Research and Innovation, emphasized the importance of continuous learning in academic growth and research excellence during his welcome address.

“This training is a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of research at MSU.

“We encourage all participants to fully engage and embrace this opportunity to expand their skill set,” said Professor Mehlana.

Dr. Kusena, the Research Manager, highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing among faculty members.

She expressed gratitude to the facilitators, Faculty Executive Deans; Dr. Nechibvute and Professor Parwada, Research and Innovation Executive Director Prof. Chikoko, and the university executive management for their support.

Following the success of this initiative, statistical data analysis training will become a permanent feature on the University’s capacity development calendar.

Plans are already underway for an upcoming session on time series data analysis.

This program underscores MSU’s commitment to advancing research skills and fostering a culture of continuous professional development among its staff and students.
