Midlands State University (MSU) officially inaugurated its newly elected Student Representative Council (SRC) on 08 June 2026 at the Gweru Main Campus, ushering in a new leadership team tasked with representing student interests and strengthening engagement between students and the University.

The inauguration marked the formal assumption of office by the newly elected student leaders, who pledged to serve the student community with integrity, accountability and dedication.

Delivering the welcome remarks, Acting Executive Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. M. K. Mafa, described the SRC as a strategic link between students and the institution.

“The SRC occupies a unique and strategic position within the University. It serves as a bridge between students and MSU, ensuring that the concerns, aspirations and welfare of students are effectively represented,” said Mr. Mafa.

He reminded the incoming leaders that their election was a call to service and responsibility.

Speaking during the event, MSU Vice Chancellor, Professor V. N. Muzvidziwa challenged the new council to embrace teamwork, pursue excellence and build on the legacy of previous student leaders.

“Teamwork is very important if you are to preserve and build upon the legacy of those who came before you. Seek knowledge and acquire skills that will enable you to uplift the SRC, the University and society at large,” said Professor Muzvidziwa.

Professor Muzvidziwa emphasised that effective student leadership is essential in fostering a vibrant university community where students feel heard, valued and empowered to contribute meaningfully to institutional development.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated council, SRC President Munashe B. Madechihwe expressed gratitude to the University leadership and student body for the confidence placed in the new team.

He pledged that the council would work collectively to address student concerns and strengthen communication between students and the University.

“We will overcome challenges and handle them together as a team. Our commitment is to listen, engage and serve the students who entrusted us with this responsibility,” he said.

The highlight of the ceremony was the swearing-in of the newly elected SRC members, signifying the commencement of a new chapter in student representation.

This inauguration marked the beginning of a new chapter in student representation at MSU, set to champion student welfare, strengthen student engagement and serve as the voice of the student community.
