The Chairman of the Midlands State University Council, Mr. C. F Dube, the Vice Chancellor, Professor N. M Bhebe, Pro – Vice Chancellors, Council, Senate, staff and students of the Midlands State University, wish to deeply express their heartfelt condolences to the President and Chancellor of the Midlands State University, Cde RG Mugabe, the Msipa family and the nation at large on the untimely passing of veteran nationalist and philanthropist par excellence, Dr Cephas George Msipa.
Dr Msipa holds a special place in the history, growth and development of Midlands State University (MSU) as one of the recipients of an honorary Doctorate from the esteemed University. Among many other engagements at the institution, Dr Msipa was also a senior member of the MSU Fundraising Committee, a member of the SODEW Enterprises Board, an entity that oversees the running of the University’s commercial activities as well as a benefactor of the indigent students.
Through the CG Msipa Family Trust, quite a good number of students from MSU were afforded the lifetime opportunity to pursue higher education.
His forthright, sage and visionary contributions during his time as an all weather friend of the University ensured that the institution remained on course to realize its growth strategy without overlooking its mandate. Dr Msipa’s love for the academic advancement of his fellow countrymen is well documented in the various scholarships he pioneered and awarded to several students of different ages and backgrounds at all levels of education in Zimbabwe.
The entire Midlands State University community and indeed the nation at large will sorely miss Dr Msipa’s warm, affable presence, contagious humour and his wise guidance.
We trust that the Msipa family will find solace in the fact that they are not alone during this difficult time, but that their loss is deeply shared by the MSU community and the entire nation.
