Following a recent announcement by the Minister of Mines on plans to revamp the Shabani Mashaba Mines (SMM) in Zvishavane,   Midlands State University (MSU) has noted with concern a false statement circulating on social media platforms to the effect that the Midlands State University Zvishavane Campus, which is situated at the Old Shabani Mashaba Mines offices, is set to close.

We wish to advise our valued stakeholders that the University’s Zvishavane Campus will not be affected by the resuscitation of mining operations by SMM. The University bought the premises on which the Zvishavane campus is housed. In addition, the University also purchased a large piece of land, where laboratories and other University structures are set to be built.

The resuscitation of the Shabani Mashaba Mines is not only a welcomed development for the Zvishavane community, but also for the University as it will provide employment opportunities as well as Work Related Learning placements for our students.

We regret the unnecessary alarm and despondency this statement might have caused to our students, parents and guardians and we urge you to disregard it.

We would also like to remind our valued stakeholders that all communication relating to the University is channelled through our website, official face book page and notices in the print media.
