PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAMME
To equip professional adult educators with innovative, managerial, leadership and problem-solving competencies which they should apply in their areas of specialisation for productivity.
To produce creative professionals who combine theoretical, practical and entrepreneurial skills, which they can apply in real-life situations in line with Agenda 2030 and Education 5.0.
1.1 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Lifelong Learning Degree or equivalent from an accredited and recognised institution.

3.0 CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AND FURTHER EDUCATION
Master’s holders can find employment in different government ministries, public sector and Non-Government Organisations as managers, lecturers, trainers, development workers and informal workers. Graduates of the Master of Education in Lifelong Learning can further their education by embarking on (Doctoral) studies in the area of Lifelong Learning and Global Change.
4.0 PROGRAMME DELIVERY
Teaching and Learning Methods:
Blended learning, project portfolios, seminar presentations, field work, action research, tutorials, group tasks and discussions
4.1 ASSESSMENT METHODS
Except for the dissertation, the final assessment in each module shall be by continuous assessment and formal examinations.
- Continuous assessment shall constitute 40% of the final assessment.
- The written examination shall constitute 60% of the final assessment.
- To pass, a candidate should obtain at least 50% of continuous assessment and examination combined.
- Assessment of the dissertation shall be based on the final written research report (70%) submitted to the Department Examiners Board, and the oral defense (30%) combined.

- MODULE SYNOPSES
MLLL701 Advanced Theories of Lifelong Learning
The module enables students to develop a basic understanding of the behaviour of adults to enhance their ability to develop better learning programmes and strategies. Students are also expected to be independent learners who are able to source information on their own and judge the worth of such material. Various philosophies and their roles in the design, implementation and evaluation of learning programmes in the various fields studied.
MLLL702 Community Development
The module equips learners with relevant skills to gain insights into the dynamics of Sustainable Community Development. It also helps candidates to profile the tenets of development in under developed countries; narrate development theories; identify players in the development paradigm and determine global development trends. Areas to be covered include point of entry, purpose of community development, and principles of community development.
MLLL703 Trends and Issues in Lifelong Learning
The module introduces the students to the current major trends, issues and topics worldwide in lifelong learning. It emphasises the acquisition and utilisation of knowledge and skills in the fields of lifelong learning. Topics covered include lifelong learning, public policy, education and training, ICT and globalisation.
MLL704 History of Adult Education
The module enables students to understand factors that influenced the emergence of Adult Education movements in different parts of the world at different times and the effects of these movements on social, economic and political developments in the respective countries. The focus is on the origins and growth of modern Adult Education in different countries.
MICT732 Advanced Information Communication Technology in Education
This module helps students to acquire advanced specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of ICTs in educational environments. The topics covered include Models of ICT curriculum integration, educational ICT policy development, current and emerging issues in digital learning, contemporary learning design theories and frameworks, and framing assessment within 21st century contexts, ICT in educational research, among others.
MED731 Advanced Research Methods and Statistics
The module develops postgraduate students’ knowledge in the following areas of educational research: the different philosophical orientations in research; research paradigms; theoretical and conceptual frameworks; research designs; data collection methodologies; advanced quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques; as well as discussion of findings and making conclusions. The module also introduces students to significant educational research problems whose resolution has the potential to contribute to knowledge in educational areas such as pedagogy and assessment, as well as in sustainable development issues such as health, poverty eradication, environmental awareness, etc.
MLLL711 Workers Education and Industrial Labour
The module examines the meaning, evolution and dimensions of the concept of the worker’s education as part of the whole field of adult education within the context of a detailed analysis of the industrial labour relations across the globe in general, and Zimbabwe in particular. Factors that influence or facilitate the growth of the movements of worker’s education in the former metropolitan countries as well as in Zimbabwe shall be assessed. Some of the areas to be covered include Labour Unions, Collective Bargaining, and Occupational Safety for the workers.
MLLL705 Strategic Management in Lifelong Learning
The module focuses on the managerial tasks of crafting, implementing and executing organisational strategies. Students are equipped with the skills to keep a continuous eye on the goals and objectives of the organisation. Topics covered include Strategic Management process, environmental scanning, strategy formulation, strategy implementation strategic leadership, corporate governance, business ethics and strategy evaluation.
MLLL706 International Relations and Lifelong Learning
The module addresses relations between nations across the globe. The important topics covered include areas of trade and economic co-operation in general; scientific, technical and cultural exchange; development, aid, diplomatic ties and military alliances. Emphasis is on North-South relations. Some of the areas to be covered include Theories of International Relations, Role of International Studies in Lifelong Learning, Diplomacy, Development and Debt.
MLLL707 Gender Studies and Development in Lifelong Learning
The module exposes students to theoretical and practical training on managing development from a gender perspective. Gender theories and approaches to development shall be applied and critically analysed at the project level. Topics to be covered include approaches to development; gender planning, designing and implementation of projects; gender budgeting, development interventions and modes of gender appraisal.
MLLL708 Conflict Management and Resolution in Lifelong Learning
This module introduces the concept of conflict management. Elements of peace, peace-making and peace-building are studied. It empowers educators with skills to foster peace and conflict resolution in communities and institutions. They are further empowered with ideas on conflicts, negative aspects of conflicts, why violence is the worst form of social change, causes of conflict and dealing with conflict. Learners shall help in the peace-building process and activities in communities. Areas to be covered include causes of conflict, theories of conflict, ways of resolving conflict and effectiveness of unresolved conflict to individuals, families and nations.
MLLL801 Dissertation
The Dissertation is a research study carried out over two semesters by each postgraduate student under the guidance of a supervisor. Students apply their knowledge and skills in conducting research on contemporary educational and social issues in their area of specialisation. Students are encouraged to conduct research, which has the potential to contribute to knowledge and policies in education, and in social issues such as poverty, disaster and risk management, environmental conservation etc. Students are expected to produce and submit a dissertation that meets the standards of research work at Masters Level.
MLLL709 Change Management and Development
The module provides valuable change management models, processes, strategies and practices for implementation in different contexts for organisational effectiveness. Concepts of organisational development, change management strategies, organisational effectiveness and efficiency. Technological leadership skills for the contemporary world shall be dealt with to equip students with the skills needed to attain Agenda 2030 targets.
MLLL710 Entrepreneurship Education and Business Innovations
The module equips the students with entrepreneurial skills on how to set up and successfully operate business/production units within and outside educational environments. Students are expected to develop a conceptual framework for entrepreneurship and distinguish between wage employment, self-employment and entrepreneurship. Familiarisation with the incubation hub and the transformation of education into an industry are considered.
