Job Summary 

Midlands State University is seeking an exceptional, results-oriented, and visionary leader to serve as Director of the National Pathology, Research and Diagnostic Centre. This is a senior management role reporting to the Pro Vice Chancellor Research Innovation and Industrialisation.  The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and overall direction of the Centre, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and innovative pathology and diagnostic services, while advancing clinical research, innovation, and sustainable growth initiatives that support the Centre’s long-term success.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A postgraduate qualification in Pathology, Radiology or Laboratory Medicine, Health Sciences, Healthcare Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Specialist qualifications in Pathology, Radiology or Laboratory Medicine will be an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years’ senior management experience in pathology, laboratory or radiology services, healthcare, or a related environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic leadership, financial management, governance, and operational oversight.
  • Proven track record in stakeholder engagement, partnership development, and business growth.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, quality systems, and accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for all pathology, diagnostic, research, and support services for the Centre.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred, efficient, and reliable pathology and diagnostic services.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic, operational, and business plans aligned to organisational goals.
  • Oversee financial sustainability, budgeting, revenue growth, cost management, and prudent resource utilisation.
  • Drive innovation, research excellence, and continuous improvement in clinical and laboratory services.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, legal, accreditation, quality assurance, and clinical governance standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, regulators, healthcare institutions, research bodies, donors, and strategic partners.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary teams to achieve high performance and service excellence.
  • Promote organisational reputation and position the Centre as a leader in diagnostic healthcare and research.
