Post: Aquaculture Technician (1 Post)

Academic Qualifications 

  • BSc in Fresh Water and Fishery Science / Aquatic Science and Ecology with at least a 2.1 pass.
  • Should have at least one (1) year experience as an aquaculture or fisheries technician or technologist.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project Development: Creating, monitoring and evaluating aquaculture and fisheries projects.
  • Fish Husbandry and Feeding: Feed stocks according to schedules, monitor feeding behaviour, and grade fish.
  • Water Quality Monitoring: Test water for oxygen, temperature, pH, and nutrient levels, ensuring parameters are within range for optimal health.
  • System Maintenance: Clean and maintain tanks, repair equipment (pumps, nets, lifters, cages, and filtration systems).
  • Health Management: Implementing and enforcing biosecurity protocols, occupational health and safety regulations.  Identify, remove, and report dead or diseased stock.
  • Harvesting and Operations: Assist with moving, sorting, and processing fish for market.
  • Data Recording: Maintain accurate, detailed logs on daily operations, feeding, and water quality.
