The duties and responsibilities of a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor and Professor are grouped into 5 main categories which are:

(a) Teaching – the incumbent is expected to teach or deliver lectures in accordance to the Department and or Faculty guidelines and standards.

(b) University Service – the incumbent should participate in all Department, Faculty and University activities such as attending meetings, training workshops, conferences and seminars, among others.

(c) Research – the incumbent is expected to engage in active research in his/her area of specialization which benefits both the students and the University 

(d)       Innovations – leading to tangible products and services

(e)       Industrialization –through commercialization of products

FACULTY OF LAW 

Department of Private Law

Post: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor (2 posts)

Qualifications

  • First degree in Law
  • Masters degree in Law
  • PhD in Law in the relevant area is an added advantage

Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate must be able to teach and supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate students, assess students on Work Related Learning and should be able to teach the following modules:

  • Law and Corporate Governance
  • Insurance Law
  • Banking Law
  • Telecommunications Law
  • Law of Succession
  • Contract Law
  • Company Law
  • Mining Law
  • Securities Law
  • Cyber law
  • Intellectual Property
  • Gender and the Law
  • Media Law

 Department of Procedural Law

Post: Part – Time Lecturer (1 post)

Qualifications

  • First degree in Law
  • Masters degree in Law
  • PhD in Law in the relevant area is an added advantage

Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate must be able to teach and supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate students, assess students on Work Related Learning and should be able to teach the following modules:

  • Advanced Civil Procedure
  • Civil Procedure
  • Law of Evidence
  • Conveyancing
  • Notarial Practice
  • Legal Ethics
  • Clinical and Practical Skills
  • Accounting for Legal Practitioners
  • Advocacy

Department of Public Law

Post: Assistant Lecturer (1 post)

Qualifications

  • First degree in Law with at least a 2.1 degree class or better.

Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate must be able to

  • Provide support to the course instructor to ensure the effective delivery of the required materials and to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Leading discussion sessions
  • Providing feedback on assignments
  • Obtaining and distributing course materials
  • Set and mark assignments.
  • Tutoring and leading discussion sessions.

POST: Research, Innovation and Industry Liaison Officer (RIILO) (1 Post)

Qualifications and Experience

  • First degree in Law passed with a 2.1 or better.
  • A holder of a relevant Master’s Degree.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property rights is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a related field.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Liaising with Industry for students Work Related Learning placements 
  • Providing regular updates on the Work-Related Learning programme outcomes and assisting Departments to identify issues that may inform curriculum review processes. 
  • Working with the Faculty, government, industry, business, communities and other stakeholders to form productive partnerships.
  • Liaising with the Research and Innovation Division and advising Departments on innovations, industrialisation and commercialisation.
  • Coordinating and organising Faculty Research Seminar Series, Presentations, Conferences and Expos.
  • Work in collaboration with departments to monitor and track alumni achievements
  • Coordinating and documenting Community Engagement activities
  • Any other duties as may be delegated by the Executive Dean.
