STUDENT AFFAIRS – DEPARTMENT OF CHAPLAINCY

POST: SENIOR ECUMENICAL CHAPLAIN (GWERU CAMPUS)

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • A Masters’ Degree in Theology/Religious Studies/Education, Counselling Studies and/or Psychology.
  • A Pastoral Professional training from a reputable and recognised Theological College/Seminary and/or University. 
  • Must be an ordained, practicing Minister in good standing with his/her Church.
  • Must have worked as a Chaplain in High School and/or Institution of Higher Learning. 
  • Relevant experience in counselling for both youths and adults.  
  • Letters of recommendations and release from the Head of Denomination are required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide Pastoral Services through ministering to the spiritual needs of Faculty, Staff, students and families as well as overall management and administration of the Midlands State University Chaplaincy Department in accordance with the policies of the University Council.
  • Focuses on the promotion and coordination of spiritual and religious life activities on campus including daily worship services for both staff and students 
  • To conduct University Community Church Services and special Ceremonies such as burial services, memorial services and Graduation Ceremonies. 
  • To lead, coordinate, develop and empower the Chaplaincy team (student leaders and honorary Chaplains) to ensure they have the motivation and skills to deliver the mission and ethos of the Chaplaincy Service. 
  • Supports the Academic mission of the University by facilitating and encouraging initiatives concerned with the moral, ethical and spiritual dimensions of the University.
  • Ministering to the spiritual needs of the entire University Community through the provision of pastoral care and counseling for students, staff and families.
  • Assist as appropriate, individual staff and students experiencing personal, intellectual, social and spiritual dimensions of life such as acute chronic illness or grief. 
  • Supplementing other support services of the University in accordance to University Policy.  
  • Visiting ill members of the University community in hospitals and homes.
  • Administer the Student Funeral Fund through the University Student Funding Committee and several Scholarships sponsored by University Partners.
  • Continues doing fundraisings to assist disadvantaged and vulnerable students with financial difficulties.
  • Conducting training on leadership and behaviour positive change towards the creation of better Midlands State University student culture.
  • Working with students’ groups in providing opportunity for personal and community enrichment, creating an atmosphere of religious tolerance and co-operation by encouraging understanding of cultural and religious diversity through interaction and discussions especially with International students.
  • Managing and providing the general oversight on the use of the Chapel and its programmes through a University Committee and student sub-committees.
  • Providing and coordinating religious, spiritual, socio-economic activities on campus including students on employment program.
