JOB SUMMARY
The Sports Officer is responsible for the campus administration of sporting activities. The Sports Officer reports to the Sports and Recreation Coordinator and plays an integral role in the student and staff experience in sport and recreation. The Sports Officer assists in maintaining liaison relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the environmental and administrative implementation of sports calendars, student recruitment, and coaching effectiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A relevant first degree, preferably in Sports / Business Sciences or a related area.
- At least 1 (one) year of experience in a sport-related environment in a university or a tertiary institution.
- A sports coaching qualification is an added advantage.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reports to the Sports and Recreation Coordinator
- Assists the Sports and Recreation Coordinator in implementing the departmental plan at the respective campuses.
- Is responsible for the administration and implementation of respective activities and coaching standards in accordance with the vision of the department.
- Organizes and promotes a variety of sports activities and events for students and staff.
- Duties include the administration of student sport recruitment, training schedules, and performance assessments for students and staff.
- Works with student organizations and external partners to enhance sports initiatives and resources.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during sports activities and events.
- Monitor participation rates and gather feedback to assess program effectiveness and make improvements.
- Utilize social media, newsletters, and events to promote sports programs and encourage student involvement.
- Identify and recruit talented athletes
- Develop and implement sports programs for various age groups and skill levels
