LIBRARY DEPARTMENT
POST: SYSTEMS ANALYST X1 POST (GWERU CAMPUS)
DESCRIPTION:
The Systems Analyst will be responsible for supporting the Library’s hardware infrastructure and software applications including but not limited to the integrated library system, the e-resource access and authentication system, digital repository frameworks, and a variety of web applications used by the Library.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- BSc Computer Science / Computer Engineering /Systems Engineering
- At least 2 years of experience in programming, systems development, or software development.
- The incumbent’s dissertation should be on Systems Development and Design.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and manages technology-based library systems.
- Analysing existing library IT-based systems and processes and identifying areas of improvement.
- Develop and implement technology solutions to address identified issues.
- Provides technical support for all the Library’s information technology requirements and ensures high-quality services.
- Designs and maintains the library website.
- Ensures security of all library data.
- Supervises the daily operations of the Library computer systems, such as the Integrated Library Management System, the Institutional Repository, the e-resource access and authentication system (EZproxy), the security system and other library systems.
- Act as the library’s liaison with software suppliers and agencies to maintain and develop the library’s provision of computer-based systems.
- Monitors industry trends and maintain currency on emerging issues related to computer systems and applications in libraries and advises the head of the department on improvements to increase efficiency.
- Train library staff and students on new IT technologies and trends
- Ensure that the library has functional IT hardware and networking infrastructure
- Monitors functionality of all library security systems.
- Maintain documentation, including system configurations, technical procedures, and user guides.
- Create social media platforms for marketing library resources and services.
- Supervises staff on weekend duty.
- Liaise with the ICT department on behalf of the library.
- Participate in library training programs.
- Monitors the library reprographic unit.
- Servicing University Committees as assigned.
- May be redeployed to any university campus as and when necessary.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- A high level of technical expertise and broad knowledge of hardware and software applications.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Proficiency in using modern database management systems such as Mysql and Navicat.
- Working knowledge of a wide variety of programming languages such as Python, C++ and PHP.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with staff, and students.
- Familiarity with library technologies and systems, including integrated library systems and electronic resource management systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
