Profile

  • Abraham Maposa is a scholar and Research Fellow at the Gender Institute, Midlands State University. His scholarship is situated at the intersection of gender studies, community psychology, and socio-ecological public health research. His work advances theoretically grounded and empirically driven approaches to gender equality, child protection, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and institutional transformation.
  • He is currently completing a PhD in Psychology at the University of Pretoria, where his doctoral research develops a socio-ecological prevention framework addressing child sexual abuse in Zimbabwe. His research integrates qualitative and mixed-methods approaches to examine structural, institutional, and community-level determinants of vulnerability and resilience.
  • At Midlands State University, he leads interdisciplinary research addressing gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and child protection systems. He has facilitated institutional capacity-building workshops on gender mainstreaming and mental health, contributed to policy review processes, and coordinated high-level academic and community engagement initiatives, including national and international conferences.
  • Mr Maposa has presented research at international platforms in South Africa, Ireland, Thailand, and Canada, and has published in peer-reviewed journals focusing on gender disparities, sexual harassment, and community engagement.
