Ms. Nyarai Patience Chibanda is the University Librarian for Midlands State University. She is a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in managing libraries in higher education. Her journey began with a Master of Science degree in Library and Information Science from the National University of Science and Technology, a qualification that laid the foundation for her illustrious career. 

Ms. Chibanda’s commitment to advancing library and information services is evident in her significant leadership roles. She is an elected member of the inaugural International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Division Committee, a testament to her influence in shaping the future of library services across the Sub-Saharan region and beyond. Her role as Chairperson of the Zimbabwe University Libraries Consortium (ZULC) Information and Communication Technology Work Group further demonstrates her leadership, guiding efforts to enhance technology integration in Zimbabwe’s university libraries. As the Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL) Country Coordinator for Zimbabwe, she advocates for open access and the sharing of knowledge. 

Her professional affiliations include being an active member of the Zimbabwe Library Association (ZimLA), where she collaborates with fellow librarians and promotes best practices in the field. Ms. Chibanda also plays a crucial role as a board member of the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU), where she serves as the Chairperson of the Strategic Information Technology Committee. In this capacity, she influences the implementation of innovative technology solutions within the University systems. In addition to her numerous contributions, Ms. Chibanda has served as the former Chairperson of the African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AFLIA) Academic and Special Libraries Section, former Chairperson of the Zimbabwe University Libraries Consortium and she is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Gweru, demonstrating her dedication to leadership and community service.

Ms. Chibanda’s vision for a modern and accessible library ecosystem is truly inspiring. As an emerging researcher, she is particularly passionate about exploring the marketing of library services, promoting Open Science and Scholarship, and harnessing the power of Information Communication Technologies to enhance library operations. Her commitment to these areas reflects her vision for a future where libraries meet the evolving needs of the academic community.
