GWERU, Zimbabwe – Midlands State University (MSU) and the Robert Gabriel Mugabe School of Intelligence (RGMSI) formalised a strategic partnership on 05 May 2026, by signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) dedicated to academic excellence, joint research, and practical security training.
The collaboration bridges the gap between academic theory and real-world intelligence practice, specifically within the rapidly advancing field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), to develop the specialised human capital required to address evolving national and global security challenges.
Delivering the opening remarks, MSU Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Administration, Professor M. Maphosa, emphasised that the agreement represents a significant shift toward institutional synergy.
“This MOA is more than just signing an agreement; it is a testament to the belief that collaboration is better than competition,” Professor Maphosa stated.
He further highlighted the relevance of the partnership in the context of emerging technologies, noting that working together on Artificial Intelligence is essential for robust human capital development.
RGMSI Deputy Director, Mr. T. Mangezi, echoed the same sentiments, expressing his institution’s delight in co-signing an agreement that reflects a mutual commitment to academic learning and research.
“It is our hope, as shared by the President’s department leadership, that training programmes under this MOA will help officers adapt to rapidly evolving security threats,” Mr. Mangezi remarked.
Closing the ceremony, MSU National Language Institute, Executive Director, Dr. B. Taringa, described the MOA as the inaugural step in a productive, long-term relationship grounded in a shared purpose of education and research.
The agreement is expected to enhance curriculum development and specialised training, ensuring that security personnel are practically prepared to respond to complex global dynamics.
MSU continues to lead in intelligence innovation through such strategic partnerships, ensuring that its research-driven culture contributes to the security and modernisation goals envisioned in National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and Sustainable Development Goal 16.
