In keeping with the institution’s vision to produce innovative, enterprising and internationally acclaimed graduates, Midlands State University (MSU) was recently awarded the International Gold Star for Quality in Geneva, Switzerland. The Award was given to MSU by the Business Initiative Directions (BID) according to the QC 100 Total Quality Management Model (TQM), ‘in recognition of the institution’s outstanding commitment to quality and excellence’ among upcoming institutions. The TQM provides a management approach that aims for long-term success by focusing on customer satisfaction.
According to the rigorous selection process, for an institution or organization to be eligible for the celebrated International Star Award for Quality, it must have a proven commitment to quality and be in continuous pursuit of excellence in the realm of customer satisfaction. The selection committee itself is comprised of leaders from 90 countries who meet annually in London, Paris, New York, Frankfurt and Geneva. As MSU continues in its pursuit of research and academic excellence, its principal stakeholder, the student, remains at the heart of all areas of university endeavor. In essence therefore, the International Gold Star for Quality Award speaks of the University’s unwavering commitment to quality, which is a consequence of MSU’s stakeholder driven approach that values customer satisfaction and recognizes quality as a critical success factor in enhancing the institution’s competitiveness.
Moreover, in 2014, Midlands State University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ngwabi M Bhebe received an award from the Contact Centre Association of Zimbabwe for the Most Customer Focused Executive, and this latest award from BID is a most welcome addition to the University’s trophy cabinet, reaffirming the University’s customer-focused orientation. Thus Midlands State University is indeed a student-centred institution.
‘BID is a global community composed of businesses and organizations that are passionate about quality improvement and active learning. This community has developed a program led by seasoned business professionals, in collaboration with universities, whose goal is to create opportunities to transform the way the professional world works.’ MSU is indeed humbled to receive this prestigious Award.
