Friday the 30th of September 2016, saw Midlands State University host its annual Open Day at the University’s Main Campus in Gweru. The Open Day, which brought together high school students, teachers and school heads has become an important event on the University calendar. The event is aimed at empowering and equipping prospective students with invaluable information to assist them in making viable career choices.
Speaking during the event the MSU, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Academic Affairs, Professor V N Muzvidziwa, impressed upon students the need to make informed choices about their future careers, noting that the first and most important step in the decision making process was choosing the right programme and an institution that would allow them to pursue their desired programmes.
Running under the theme, ‘Your Gateway to Success’ this year’s Open Day was also designed to encourage high school students to take up programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics ‘STEM’ related fields, in line with national developmental aspirations aimed at bringing about socio-economic transformation.
Over and above affording prospective students the opportunity to gather and receive information about their future careers, the Open Day was also an opportunity for them to interact with members of the University community, tour facilities as well as get a glimpse of what university life is all about, both in and outside the class room.
Schools that attended the event were drawn from various provinces across the country, which included the Midlands, Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Matebeleland North among others.
