The Midlands State University Red Cross Youth Club has handed over a consignment of goods to victims displaced by floods in the Sipepa area of Tsholotsho, as part of efforts to alleviate the plight of the community.

A delegation from the club comprising club President, Joseph Dzingo, Secretary General, Simbarashe Matirongo and Vice President Sharon Muzhona, in the company of officials from the Red Cross office in Matabeleland North visited Sipepa transit camp in Tsholotsho on Tuesday 28 March 2017 and handed over the goods that include foodstuffs, toiletries and clothing items to the affected community.

The goods that are worth more than $5 000 were collected by members of the Red Cross Youth Club from members of staff and students in the University. Speaking during the handover of the consignment, patron of the Red Cross Youth Club, Mr. Tafirenyika Shoko who is also the Midlands State University Acting Director of Health Services applauded the students for a sterling effort and urged them to find ways to continue assisting disadvantaged communities.

859 individuals are currently housed at Sipepa transit camp and plans are underway to resettle them.
