Local chiefs from the Zvishavane district namely Chief Mafala, Chief Masunda, Chief Mazvihwa and Chief Mapanzure toured Midlands State University’s Zvishavane Campus on Thursday, 30 March 2017, as part of a familiarisation tour of the country’s premier institution of higher learning.
The delegation which included chiefs, headmen, Zvishavane Assistant District Administrator, Mr Chiwanga as well as members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) was led on the tour by the MSU Acting Campus Director, Professor A. Viriri and the Deputy Registrar, Mr I. Gumbo.
As part of the tour, the delegation had the opportunity to visit various University facilities among them the sports pavilion, student halls of residence and the computer resource centre.
After seeing the University’s infrastructure and gaining insight into the Campus’ operations, the local traditional leadership expressed satisfaction with the Zvishavane Campus and gave it their blessing. The chiefs applauded Midlands State University for its multi-campus approach, which saw the institution relocating and establishing several departments and faculties in Zvishavane. The traditional leaders said the move was a noble idea that was long overdue as it has enhanced the socioeconomic status of the community.
The tour also provided an opportunity for both the University and the traditional leaders to discuss various socio-economic issues that are currently being faced by local communities in Zvishavane at large.
