Midlands State University on Wednesday the 19th of April, 2017 played host to the Joint Command and Staff Course Number 30 of the Zimbabwe Staff College (ZSC). The delegation led by Commandant of the Zimbabwe Staff College, Brigadier General Kudumba, comprised the Chief Instructor, Colonel Ndlovu, representatives of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, Directing Staff and students.

The visit, which was part of a study and familiarisation tour was aimed at broadening the students’ knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the dynamics between various industrial sectors and national security. Over and above exploring possible areas of cooperation between the Zimbabwe Staff College and Midlands State University.

Addressing delegates, Midlands state University, Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Kadmiel H. Wekwete, outlined how the University has grown in leaps and bounds since its inception in 1999, to become one of the country’s leading multi-campus institutions of higher learning. He further noted that the visit by members of the Zimbabwe Staff College was in keeping with the University’s commitment to being a stakeholder driven institution.

‘… we started from humble beginnings to become the biggest national multi-campus state university…’ said Professor Wekwete.

In his presentation, Brigadier General Kudumba, highlighted that issues of national security have increasingly become diverse and that his delegation’s visit was part of an important learning exercise.

After presentations by various senior members of the University’s administration, among them Principal Officers, Executive Deans and Directors, students from the Zimbabwe Staff College had an opportunity to ask questions as well as interact with members of the University community.

The interactive session was followed by a tour of the University’s facilities, which marked the end of the study visit and familiarisation tour.

The Joint Command and Staff Course Number 30 has 55 students drawn from the Zimbabwe National Army, the Air Force of Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the Zimbabwe Prison Services, the President’s Office and from various allied countries from the SADC Region and Nigeria.
